- RF-4E Phantom II 98+01 "Last Klick" WTD-61, 1995
Delivered in 1971 to the German flight test and evaluation center, this Phantom was the very first F-4 received by the Luftwaffe. It later served with AG-51 and AG-52 before returning to WTD-61, where it was used to test sensors and avionics for aircraft coming from the former East Germany.
The 98+01 (ex 35+01) was also the last operational RF-4E in Germany. It performed its final flight at Manching in September 1995, specially painted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Bundeswehr, the retirement of the RF-4E, and the final flight of its pilot. The aircraft was later sold to the Turkish Air Force.
- F-4F Phantom II 38+13 "45 Jahre Erprobung” WTD-61, 2002
WTD-61 (Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 61) has been Germany’s flight test and evaluation center since 1957. Operating all types of Luftwaffe aircraft, it was the F-4F Phantom II 38+13 that received the special 45th anniversary scheme of WTD-61, unveiled during an open day on September 28, 2002. Eleven years later, this very same aircraft—still in special markings—flew in formation with 37+15 to perform the Luftwaffe’s very last Phantom flight at Manching on July 30, 2013, just one month after the farewell flights of JG-71 at Wittmund.
