Syhart 48-078 :
Germany was one of the primary operators of the legendary F-4 Phantom:
initially in its reconnaissance version, the RF-4E, from 1971, flown by:
- AG-51 "Immelmann" based in Bremgarten
- AG-52 based in Leck
Later, in the fighter/bomber version, the F-4F entered service in 1973 with:
- JG-71 "Richthofen" based in Wittmund
- JBG-36/JG-72 "Westfalen" based in Rheine-Hopsten
- JBG-35/JG-73 "Steinhoff" based in Pfersfeld, later Laage
- JG-74 "Mölders" based in Neuburg an der Donau
Let’s also remember WTD-61, the German flight test center, which was both the first unit to receive the RF-4E and F-4F Phantoms and the last to operate them.
For its final flight, the F-4F Phantom 38+13 was specially decorated in Manching. It also took part in the last Phantom flight ceremonies at Wittmund in June, before... Flying to return to Manching alongside 37+15, just one month before its own retirement in July 2013. "Don't let me die, I want to fly"
